Program Details

ISATEC (International Studies in Aquatic Tropical Ecology) used to be a separate programme. Since the winter semester 2020/21 it is a study profile inside the MSc Marine Biology at the University of Bremen.

This matters when you apply. Even if you want the ISATEC profile with a DAAD scholarship, you must apply for Marine Biology and choose the subject "Marine Biology DAAD" in the online portal.

Required Documents

The DAAD publishes its own list of documents for EPOS applications, so check that list first. Bremen adds these rules:

  • Application form and the DAAD form
  • Letter of motivation, written in English
  • Curriculum vitae, written in English
  • Proof of English proficiency at C1 level, if you are not exempt
  • Any other documents the DAAD requires. These can be in English or German.

Upload the DAAD form and any other documents the portal does not ask for directly in the "further documents" section. Incomplete applications are not considered.

Paper documents are only requested if you are selected. Do not send originals. Copies of certificates must be validated, and certificates in languages other than German or English must be translated.

How to Apply

  1. Read the DAAD EPOS requirements and confirm you meet both the DAAD conditions and the Bremen admission rules.
  2. Prepare your documents, including the DAAD form, motivation letter, CV and English proof.
  3. Register on the University of Bremen Online Application Portal.
  4. Apply for Marine Biology and select "Marine Biology DAAD" as the subject.
  5. Upload all documents. Use the "further documents" section for the DAAD form and anything else not requested directly.
  6. Check that everything is complete, then submit before the deadline.

Applications for the university and the DAAD scholarship both go through this portal.

Deadline

The deadline for the combined application for the 2027 intake is 15 October 2026. The portal opened on 1 August. The university page does not state a time zone, so submit well before the last day.
