In the past two years, no other Star Trek actor has accomplished what Tim Russ did in Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Khan. From 1995 to 2001, Russ played the legendary role of Lieutenant Commander Tuvok in Star Trek: Voyager for seven seasons on the United Paramount Network (UPN).
Since Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) in Star Trek: The Original Series, Tuvok was the first Vulcan to appear frequently in a Star Trek television program. Tuvok, in contrast to Spock, was entirely Vulcan and had no human DNA, but he soon gained popularity as a cast member of Star Trek: Voyager.
Tim Russ portrayed Tuvok in fan-created films such as Star Trek: Renegades following the conclusion of Star Trek: Voyager, although both he and Tuvok made a reappearance in Star Trek: Picard season 3. Additionally, Russ makes Star Trek history by portraying Ensign Tuvok in Star Trek: Khan.
No other Star Trek actor has done what Tim Russ did in the past two years.
Tim Russ is the first Star Trek actor to play a character in two distinct Star Trek periods in only two years Star Trek: Picard season 3 in 2023 and Star Trek: Khan in 2025 as well as an evil third Tuvok.
In a heartfelt exchange with Commander Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) in the Star Trek: Picard season 3 finale, Captain Tuvok disclosed that the late Captain Liam Shaw (Todd Stashwick) respected Seven and recommended her for a promotion. Tuvok had the privilege of elevating his old crewmate from the USS Voyager to the position of Captain of the USS Enterprise-G.
However, Tim Russ surprised Seven of Nine and viewers in Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 7, "Dominion," by reappearing as "Captain Tuvok," but it was actually a Changeling disguising himself as the Vulcan. Until his reappearance in the third season finale of Star Trek: Picard, fans were unaware of Tuvok's existence. Tim Russ even had the opportunity to play a malevolent alternate version of Tuvok as a result.
Lastly, as revealed by Star Trek: Voyager's "Flashback," Tim Russ was given permission by Star Trek: Khan to voice Ensign Tuvok, who served on the USS Excelsior in the late 23rd century under Captain Hikaru Sulu (George Takei).
Tuvok was crucial to the investigation of Khan Noonien Singh (Naveen Andrews) by Dr. Rosalind Lear (Sonya Cassidy).
